Squirrels

squirreldamage1Common urban wildlife problems are squirrels. Gray squirrels are the most common squirrel in the St. Louis area and often found living in homes. Attics are the most common nesting site. Entry is found through roof vents, openings in corners, torn attic screens and other openings. A major concern of squirrels in the attic is gnawing on electrical lines and the potential for fire.

It is very difficult to determine the number inhabiting a structure. Generally, three to four squirrels are caught per opening but it can vary significantly. Squirrels will often raise a two to four babies in the spring. In time, multiple generations may happen before the damage is noticed. They must be removed before repairs can be made.

We normally use “live” trapping techniques to remove these nuisance pests. Cage traps are installed close to the entry point and in most instances; the traps are placed to be visible from the ground. These traps will be monitored daily so that once a squirrel is caught they can be relocated. We will not guarantee a job unless we close the opening. The trapping process can take several days or more.

Pricing of our service is based on many factors. Working on ladders and in attics carries risk and takes more time than working on the ground. In addition, two-story houses and steep roofs can make service more difficult. Usually we charge an initial trap setup charge followed by a per squirrel charge. We usually put up one or more traps at entrance points which may reduce costs since more than one squirrel can be caught per trip.

Mice

mousedroppings1Mice are common fall and winter pests but may be a problem any time of year. Usually the first indication of mice is the droppings found in kitchen drawers or cabinets. Mice droppings look like small black grains of rice. Sometime they are limited to the attic and scratching noises can be heard as they nest under the attic insulation.

Moles

moledamage1Moles tunnel under the ground. Typically we use sub soil spring traps and charge an initial setup charge based on yard size which includes a one year guarantee at $45 per mole. Normal sized yards typically have one to four moles although more than four moles is not uncommon.

Raccoons

raccoondamage1Raccoons are a little less common but are often found in attics. Raccoons are nocturnal and are usually quiet during the day. People tend to hear them as they leave at night and then again as they return latter in the early morning hours. Entry is found through roof vents, torn attic screens and vents, bent attic louvers and other openings. Raccoons typically have babies in April and May. Normally there is either a single raccoon or a female with two to three babies.

Again we use live traps and these traps must be monitored daily so that once a raccoon is caught it can be relocated. Once caught, raccoons will be released at least seven miles from where they were caught in a rural area away from homes so they will not become someone else’s problem. Once all the raccoons have been removed, the opening must be closed to prevent new raccoons or other wildlife from entering. We normally provide this service to our customers. We will not guarantee a job unless we close the opening. The trapping process can take several days to weeks.

Pricing for this service and groundhogs is like squirrels except the per animal rate is $55.00

Birds

birddamage1Black birds and starlings can be a common pest and control involves the use exclusion or repellant techniques.
